I remember one day when I was standing at the kitchen sink with dish gloves on making my way through a pile of dishes. I was up to my elbows in hot soapy water scrubbing a pot when my son walked over and asked me to play a game.
My first inclination was to tell him that I would after I was done doing the dishes, but then I thought to myself, does it really matter if I play first or do dishes first? So I took off my gloves, and told him to pick out a game. His eyes were bright and wide, and I could tell how much it meant to him that I said “yes” and didn’t put him off.
We can’t always do this because some timelines do matter, like putting younger siblings to bed or having a scheduled appointment. But there are times when it truly doesn’t matter and something can wait. Take advantage of them. Find times to say “YES!” I am not sure who will feel better about it. You or your kids 🙂
